Waipi'o Valley was home to old Hawaiian kings and was once densely populated. Now, it is mostly taro fields with few inhabitants. WAIPI'O VALLEY ROAD IS CLOSED TO NON-RESIDENTS. Visitor access to the valley floor is only possible as part of a tour but the lookout is still accessible for everyone.
